City of God we would all think of a holy place to be in but on the controversy it wasn’t the safest place to be in. â€Å"But in the end one needs more courage to live than to kill himself.† Albert Camus Many young kids do not have a house to run to, a mother to cuddle with, a father to set things straight siblings to get love from. Reality getting involved in violence can make you but in the end break you. Power with violence can make you stronger five you more power but break you in a blink of an eye. Brutality of life is revealed in Rios slums in this Brazilian film. A powerful film that views violence, lack of education, lack of money in 3rd world countries People create a civilized society individuals make it the norm however there are those ignorant people that just destruct everything and make it a disaster. It is part of a human balance to have good and evil. According to Urban Cinefile Critics, "A powerful and haunting film that explores the myriad of stories that lie deep within the slums of Rio, City Of God shocks, enlightens and above all affects us by taking us into a world where drugs and organized crime are a way of life." But in this film it shows that everyone choses their own paths to walk by for instances if it wasn’t for the harsh and brutality in that city Rocket, who is intelligent, cannot survive to do the work that his intelligence entitles him to do. Take pictures be in the photography industry and have his work published. Intelligence can be made in everyone that chooses to succeed in life the right way however a charter named Lil Z in this movie shows us otherwise. Stupidity, lack of knowledge (thinking he is famous being in the newspaper) not being able to read at his age is just sad. Thinking he is God of... ...see karma in the ending where Lil Z returns to the city looking for the children for help id assume these children turn on hi and kill him Rocket captures the whole scenery which made him famous having one person on the inside and living another life where that shot he took landed on the front page of the newspaper. Neighborhoods do have an impact on a child's behavior as well as the way they vision themselves growing up. A child's background in life matters no matter what. Where a child has grown up the neighborhood history remains the same until someone changes the perspective of the scenery the children grew up in as well as the violence that was always surrounded them. They need a better role model because in the end history bounded to repeat itself having now kids under the age of 15 walking around thinking they run the place till history repeats itself again.

Lady Agnew of Lochnaw by John Singer Sargent

John Sargent was one of the most prominent portrait painters during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.   Sargent was born in Italy to American parents that moved constantly throughout his childhood.   Perhaps painting portraits allowed him to get close to individuals since he did not during his childhood.  Ã‚   There is no denying that Sargent was observant in the physical details as well as the details of the subject’s personality because the subjects look as if they are ready to step out of the painting and join the world of the living.   This is especially true of Lady Agnew of Lochnaw painted in eighteen ninety-three. The subject of the painting Lady Agnew of Lochnaw is Gertrude Vernon, the wife of Andrew Noel Agnew.   He commissioned the painting soon after he inherited the barony in France.   In the painting, Lady Agnew seems to be staring out into the eyes of the viewer and even though she is in a relaxed pose, she is dressed formally.   From her intense gaze, one can tell that Lady Agnew is a strong person who is not afraid to look someone straight in the eye. Blue green silk fabric was used for the background in the painting.   Even though Sargent uses more green near the shadows, blue is the predominant color.   At first glance one does not notice the tiny peach and white flowers that are scattered throughout the fabric.   However, they lend an elegant quality to the fabric because they give an oriental look to the silk which also comes from the orient. It is also expensive so it makes a statement of wealth.   Sargent achieves the texture of silk in the background with his use of lights and darks which shows quality of his talent.   The blue green color also compliments the soft white chiffon dress with the sheer sleeves.   The lilac colored satin sash blends with the faint hint of pink used in the peach flowers.   The lightness of the color of Lady Agnew’s dress gives an ironic contrast of freedom and innocence. The Chair in which Lady Agnew is sitting is reminiscent of the furnishings of Marie Antoinette which is symbolic of her and her husband’s new titles.   The wood of the chair is painted in a cream and gold colored French provincial style.   The elegance of the furniture is displayed in the light cream background with light blue and deep mauve colored flowers giving the fabric the style of country French.   The cream of the chair contrast the white of the dress, but the blue and pink still bring the colors together by complimenting the lilac sash. Lady Agnew wears very little jewelry, but the pieces she has chosen are sophisticated.   Around her neck she wears a deep rose colored undefined cameo necklace suspended from a gold chain.   The cameo is encircled with jewels that appear to be diamonds.   Again the wealth of the Agnews is displayed with the quality of the jewelry. She also wears a wide yet delicate gold bracelet on the wrist that is slightly draped over the arm of the chair.   The gold in the bracelet blends so well with the colors of the chair that it is barely noticeable.   The understatement of the jewelry symbolizes the taste of the titled Agnews. When one gazes on a John Sargent portrait, such as Lady Agnew of Lochnaw, it is easy to see how he was such a renowned artist in this area.   The realistic portraits and his use of color brought to life those who sat before him.   Sargent could also present the subject’s social status of his subject without being ostentatious. I. The Civil War was a time in American history built on growing tension and sectionalism. The constant battle over slavery between the North and the South would leave the Union anything but united. No number of compromises could stop the significant indifferences between the North and the South. Many events led to the horrific Civil War, but all of these events happened because of one reason; slavery.The Missouri Compromise, Fugitive Slave Act, and the Election of 1860 were the most significant of these events that led to the war. II. The Missouri Compromise would be the very beginning of the nation breaking apart. In 1817, Missouri applied for statehood, however, the people of Missouri wanted to be a slave state. Missouris statehood†¦show more content†¦They could break the law by not turning slaves in, showing the country how much they had supported abolition, but that would leave them fined and/or jailed. Their second option was to obey the law and turn in any fugitive, however it would decrease the abolition movement and may have encouraged slavery to take over the country. This act was also a problem for blacks who were not slaves. Free blacks were often captured and sold in to slavery, even if they had never been a slave in their life. There were also arguments about slaves/blacks rights. Accused fugitives were not tried in regular court, instead, a special commissioner would decide their fate. Those of free states argued that this violated a persons basic legal rights. IV. The Election of 1860 was a tight race between mainly two candidates, Abraham Lincoln and John Breckinridge. Both candidates were considered to have the most extreme views on slavery. Lincoln proposed to halt the expansion of slavery in to the territories, howver Breckinridge insisted that the federal government was entitled to protect slaver in any territory. The outcome of the election shows how close the competition really was, Lincoln won most Northern states, and Breckinr idge carried most of the South.
